I’ve been trying to get more into politics this year than I have in the past. There are a number of reasons for this, but my most major concern is that I am going to be affected by this. I would qualify as the “Average Joe” in this country. Another is that this was a historical primary for the Democratic ticket. In the primaries, it came down to a women and a black man. We’ve never had either of these as a president in the United States of America, which prompted me to wonder what will happen in this election. Once the Democratic primaries were over, I saw that Barack Obama had won the Democratic ticket. Considering that the Clinton administration was fairly popular, I decided to look into Barack Obama.
I must say, I liked what I saw. He seemed like someone who knew what he was talking about. But the thing that made him better was his lack of experience. In this manner, he does not have to live under the shelter of what has already happened, but under the shelter of what will happen. While critics view this as a bad thing, I see it as a positive. He has a wide range of options, and knowing the faults of previous administrations, including the current President Bush, makes him all the more knowledgeable about this.
However, I also decided to look at the Republicans. During the primary season, I did not see many changes in how they went about business. I didn’t really see anything that sparked an interest in them with me. When McCain won, I knew I had heard that name before. I was right. Just like many of the other candidates, he had done something worth naming in the past. I looked into his plans somewhat, and I was a little thrown off.
Even more so, I’ve just been appalled by both candidates lately. Neither of them have been making sure that they dodge the traps set by the other. Neither really seem to have done anything outside of the usual politics. From “Joe the Plumber” to all this rhetoric, it becomes an annoyance when you see such intelligent people, which you hope could break from the past, just following in the footsteps of those who have failed in the past. Not only that, but those who have been disliked in the past. To be honest, I hate how the candidates have been speaking lately. I just hate the fact that they’ve gone back to politics as usual.
This is just my take on the issue. I’m sure you will have your own opinions, so feel free to post them.
